SEASON 2003/2004

2003/2004 games summaries

Junior jet's go down fighting in the GF - After a fantastic season it looked like the juniors were going to top it off with a championship as they lead 12-6 at half time however it wasn't to be and the boys went down 18-12 at the final whistle.

Congratulations must go to coaches Leo & Dan for doing a great job in moulding a very completive team , and also to all the junior players for putting in a great effort all season. We look forward to seeing you all back down next season as you aim to go one better.

Semi final - V's steelers - Jets lost 28-20. A disappointing end to a good season.

RND 1 Friday 3-Oct Vipers vs. Jets 7pm at Ken Allen
Lost 34-20. Not a bad hit out for the first game of the season. Lot's of things to build on on both sides of the ball. D struggled with the run and a couple of blown coverage's let in some passing TD's that should have been stopped. O drove well when they did, but showed a lack of consistency, but this is to be expected this early on in the season.
The biggest low light of the game was OLB Jerry Matthews being shipped off too emergency after blowing his bad ankle in a big way, all the boy's best wishes are with him

RND 2 Saturday 11-Oct Jets vs. Saints 4:15pm at Ken Allen
Won 40-24, Jets came out fast with a couple of quick score's, then the Saints found their feet and really stuck it to us for the first three quarters. With the Saints still within 4 points late in the third quarter the team needed to step up to bring home a win. This combined with the a Saints lack of numbers causing bit of extra fatigue, we managed to come home in the 4th and post the first win for the season.

RND 3 Saturday 18-Oct Broncos vs. Jets 6:30pm at Ken Allen
Won 48-6. A good hit out considering both sides lack of numbers. O did well both in the air and on the ground , and D did well bar one poorly covered passing play which resulted in the 6 points.

RND 4 Saturday 25-Oct Jets vs. Steelers 2pm at Ken Allen
Won 20-14. Both teams were undermanned but it was the make-shift O-line of the Jets that gave QB Ben Newton the opportunity to pass the football. Leading 14-6 into the fourth quarter, the squeelers tied the game in the last quarter with the interception off Beefa and a 2 pt convert. With less than 2 minutes left and in some brilliant clock management skills (no time outs remaining), the Jets with only 2 seconds left to play won on the last play of the game with a 40-yard TD strike from Beefa to WR Todd MacFarlane. Final score 20-14.
RND 5 Saturday 1-Nov Giants vs. Jets 4:15pm at Tregonning
Jets won 30-10

RND 6 Saturday 8-Nov Jets vs. Vipers 2pm at Ken Allen
Lost 33-14

RND 7 Saturday 15-Nov Jets vs. Saints 6:30pm at Ken Allen
Won - 49-6 For the first time in recent history the Jets didn't have weight of numbers over the Saints to bring it home in the 4th if needed, with the teams fielding 16 and 17 players respectively. In the end it didn't matter much with the team winning convincingly. D continually gave O good field position and that's all the help they needed to score again and again. With so many players to come back from injury over the coming weeks things can only get better.

RND 8 Saturday 22-Nov Jets vs. Broncos 1:30pm at Tregonning
Jets win 36-12 A committed Broncos team came out hard and offensively really took it up to the Jets. A good hard game. Also great to see a number of ex players down to support the team, it fantastic to have the old boy's still coming down to support the club.

RND 9 Saturday 29-Nov Steelers vs. Jets 6:30pm at Ken Allen
Jets Win 26-0, What look like a danger game going in, with the Jets losing a number of key players due to injuries and end of exam activities, turned out to be nothing of the sort with the Steelers in the same boat and most noticeable being down their starting QB.
This aside it was still fantastic for D to finally have a good consistent hit out for 4 quarters and contain an offence to donut , which is something we haven't done against any team so far this season, and 2 defensive TD's were the reward for good solid D.
O also showed what they are made of. With only one back who had played in that position before they still managed to have a running game to complement it's awesome passing game and scored a couple of TD's themselves to take comfortable win .

RND 10 Saturday 6-Dec Jets vs. Giants 6:30pm at Ken Allen
Lost 37-22. D failed to contain the Giants O, and O failed to fire in the second half. All credit to the Giants they came ready to play and the Jets ineffective in matching them, however a some overzealous celebrations through out the game will be sure to come back to haunt the giants next time the two clubs meet.
Lot's of improvement needed if the team if to be a real championship contender this season.

RND 11 Saturday 13-Dec Vipers vs. Jets 4:15pm at Ken Allen
Lost 16-0 An undermanned Jets took on an undermanned vipers outfit and were simply too soft on the day.

RND 12 Saturday 20-Dec Saints vs. Jets 2pm at Ken Allen
Jets win 50-0
The saints were undermanned but we were without QB Ben Newton again, can you beleive that he hurt his knee gardening!!!. The Jets had QB Laurie ‘Princess’ Webber backing up again, and I think it turned out for the better because the guys were a lot more supportive of Princess and it was a team effort turnaround from the previous week.
To Princess’s credit, he did play a good game, he threw 2 TDs to Todd ‘Elvis’ MacFarlane (who else) and he ran in 2 TDs as well, the last one was funny as he fined himself after the game, he called a passing play QB role out right, but was always going to run it and never told anyone, Junior was pissed because he was wide open. O did not punt once and only failed to convert 1 TD, including Todd’s PAT pass (1 for 1) to RB Ben ‘Juice’ Prescott.
The game marked a turning point of the season, and after Christmas and New Year we have to get really serious and step up the intensity and skill level of our play to have a real crack at the finals. The Jets go into the break with a 8 win 4 loss record. Overall the attitude seemed a little bit more with it (maybe it was the circling up for warm ups and not in lines??), and as Juice told me its a lot more easier when we only have to go one way.
SCORERS - Todd MacFarlane, Laurie Webber 2 TDs each, Ben Prescott, Dan Bunter & Rory Bannon 1 TD each, Todd MacFarlane4 PAT (all kicked 4/5), Ben Prescott 4 PAT

RND 13 Saturday 10-Jan Broncos vs. Jets 2pm at AshfieldJets win 21-0 Both side did it hard in the 39 degree heat, but the Jets O just had to much fire power.

RND 14 Saturday 17-Jan Jets vs. Steelers 4:15pm at Ashfield 20 all draw.
Both teams had moments of good play but both failed to fire with any consistence. A great drive from the Jets with 1.30 left on the clock to pull out the draw.

RND 15 Saturday 31-Jan Giants vs. Jets 2pm at Ashfield
Won 26-7. Both O and D did what needed to be done to win the game but that's about all. Neither could say the dominated the Giants in any way, shape or form and will need improvements across the field if we are to improve on the 20 all draw we had with the Steelers last time we met when we take them on in the first semi, this Saturday 4.15pm at Ashfield.
